We were delighted to be invited to the 10th anniversary of the very worthy
SHARE Foundation charity. As regular donors we decided to coincide our holiday
to Sri Lanka with this landmark event at St Lucias Cathedral, Colombo. The
Mass was celebrated amidst glorious surroundings by Bishop Norbit Anradi from
Anaradhapura, the parish priest Father Tony Martin, and Father Roger Fernando
from Allagollawa whose parish is the most recent recipient of the Share
Community Nursing project.
Share is a registered charity in both the UK and Sri Lanka and has succeeded in
creating an increasing awareness of the need for coordinated community
based programmes. Through leading by example, Celine Samarasinghe the founder
of SHARE has formed teams of healthcare providers for the aged and terminally
ill in several of the poorer areas of Sri Lanka. There is much more to be done and
many more teams need to be established to serve the needy and bolster the few
existing facilities. In the meantime we felt assured that our monthly donation
is used wisely and efficiently and for an essential service, a service that
Celine and her teams hope will in time become an integral part of the
country's healthcare system.
