Following my blog on Tuesday about Barnet Council shamefully snubbing our local war heroes, The Guardian contacted me to find out more. I am pleased to say that they have done some more investigation and today have today reported the issue as part of a wider report into the whole Easycouncil farce - http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/2010/feb/18/barnet-easycouncil-privatise-planning - a report every Barnet resident should read.
The issue is quite simple. If you serve in the armed forces and you come from Barnet, you should be added to the local war memorial, if you are killed. Full Stop. The concept of a cut price, dodgy memorial, tucked away miles from most of the population is quite frankly insulting. I can think of nothing more inspiring for our youngsters than a public unveiling of the addition of names on OUR LOCAL HIGHSTREET MEMORIAL. Anything less is an insult. If Councillor Lynne Hillan, Mayor Brian Coleman and their dodgy colleagues cannot see this, they are not fit to run the Borough. I can see this, you can see this and the Guardian can see this. Seems like the only people who can't are Barnet Council.
Shame on them.
