Another Barnet Council Cock up

It looks like the executives and councillors in Barnet Council are too busy negotiating huge pay rises to actually bother collecting the Tax from those who can't be bothered paying it. It is sad to report that the Sheltered housing warden service could have been funded 18 times over if they had. The money is roughly £6 million from Council Tax and £3 million from Business rates.

Barnet is fifth worst Borough in London. Why does this not surprise me. Yesterday we reported that Brian Coleman claims he works 100 hours a week.  If him and his colleagues actually devoted their time in the office to doing something useful rather than figuring out new ways to siphon off our cash, we'd all be better off. This money would fund the rebuilding of 3 of the boroughs schools

  1. This is extraordinary. Instead of creating new and unecessary posts a few weeks ago at a cost of hundreds of thousands, why didn't they direct resources into pursuing these missing payments? How does this sort of thing escape the eyes of auditors?

  2. It is surely extraordinary that a largely wealthy suburban borough

(well, 'suburban' before all the high-density stuff gets built, to completely change the borough)
    - Where was I? Ah yes -

...suburban borough cannot manage to collect this money.

Barnet ought to be near the best borough in London at doing this, rather than the worst.

  3. Rog, I am totally fed up with the allowances issue but as yet there has been little concrete action. I have started an On-line petition at http://tiny.cc/dyr0t which I hope you will be able to support. I am a RAB representative and I stood at the recent elections in East Barnet ward fighting against exactly this sort of abuse by councillors. I know we are from different parties but I see this as an issue above politics - liberal, conservative and labour voters that I know are all incensed by this greed. I hope you will be able to ensure this gets circulated around the blogs of Barnet. Thanks for your help.
