I saw this twitter on our local MP Matthew Offords Twitter feed.
Meeting with business owner and the Royal Bank of Scotland to discuss lending to local businesses before surgery. about 14 hours ago via web Matthew Offord
I formally invite Matthew down to my studio to discuss RBS lending policies in the week that redevelopment of part of the site we are located at is due to start. I sincerely hope that Matthew Offord is going to raise the roof on this issue. It is the biggest issue affecting small business and has been the no 1 topic raised at every meeting of the Federation of Small Business strategy group that I've attended in the last two years.
By their nature Small businesses do not have the same voice as other areas of the economy but are the lifeblood of a healthy society. They have been S*** on by the banks and the government for the last 40 years (if not longer). This is equally true of Conservative and Labour Governments (in fact most have done better under Labour than Tory regimes - a pattern yet again repeating itself).
Last year I invited the Deputy Leader of Barnet Council, Andrew Harper to discuss the issues affecting small business and Barnet Council with myself or a representative of Small business. His response was that he wasn't interested in talking to pressure groups. I sincerely hope Matthew Offord MP takes up this offer. I think it is worth reminding people that Mr Offord is our MP. His job is to represent his constituents, whether he agrees with them or not. If he is taking up the fight for small business that is a step in the right direction. Personally I think that if anyone needs a good duffing up it's RBS for their lending policy to small business.
What a very odd thing for Mr Offord to say. I wasn't aware you were a pressure group.
ReplyDeleteIt is a great shame that the concerns of local small business owners are a subject which will be off the agenda at future residents forums
Sorry, meant to say Andrew Harper, not Matthew Offord. Apologies Matthew.
