The Barnet Eye is also a firm believer in helping those less well off than us lucky people who live in the London Borough of Barnet and presumably get three square meals a day and a tap which delivers clean drinking water to us. Whatever we may write about the things we think could be improved, we would rather live in Mill Hill in the London Borough of Barnet than anywhere else on the planet.
We believe that everyone in Barnet should do everything they can to lift those people less fortunate out of poverty. If you have a few spare pounds, we urge you to donate a small (or large) amount of this to good causes. This blog does not support every policy of this government, but we have been made aware of one scheme we think is an excellent idea and we urge everyone (especially the Roman Catholic communuity in Barnet) to consider contributing. CAFOD is the Catholic overseas aid agency. This charity says about itself :-
CAFOD is the official Catholic aid agency for England and Wales.
We work with partners in more than 40 countries across the world to bring hope, compassion and solidarity to poor communities, standing side by side with them to end poverty and injustice. We work with people of all faiths and none. We work with more than 500 partners overseas, and with partners in the UK - all working to reduce poverty. Inspired by Scripture, Catholic Social Teaching and the experiences and hopes of people living in poverty, CAFOD works for a safe, sustainable and peaceful world.
Without clean water, people’s lives are in constant danger. Drinking dirty water can be deadly and the daily search for this precious resource wastes countless lives.
Every 20 seconds a child dies from drinking dirty water. Donate now>>
Right now, you have a short window of opportunity to save lives and help families like Judith and Zimi in our video because CAFOD has been awarded UK Aid Match funding. This means that the Government will match pound-for-pound every gift you send in response to our Lent Appeal.
With your donation doubled this Lent, now is the time to give as much as you can to help transform lives like never before.
Please consider a donation to Cafod or another good cause today. I was told by a former Mayor of Barnet that Barnet is the most generous local community in the country in terms of charitable donations. That is a cause to celebrate, but please do not let us sit back on our laurels.
