Why Johnny Rotten is right and Russell Brand is wrong

A spat has broken out between Sex Pistols frontman John Lydon (AKA Johnny Rotten) and comedian Russel Brand. Brand has been pontificating on the subject of voting, saying its pointless. John Lydon has waded in calling Brand a "bumhole" for saying such a stupid thing. Lydon rightly says that there is not much of a choice between the parties, but there clearly is a difference. He says that if there wasn't millionaires wouldn't spend so much on parties such as UKIP and the Tories. He says that if you don't vote, you have no right to say anything and no right to expect change.

We agree.

  1. When Russell Brand said 'don't vote' it really shocked me. It's playing into the hands of all the worst elements in politics. He is disenfranchising a generation by spreading the myth that votes don't matter.
Back in the days when I used to canvas door to door before elections I never minded people saying they would vote for the opposition but I'd inwardly scream when they said they wouldn't bother.
How about everyone posting something on their FB to the effect that we can only achieve real change if everyone uses their vote. The silent majority should be speaking up. Look at the Scottish referendum, had it been the usual 30-40% turnout the vote could easily have gone the other way. As it is nobody can argue that the result reflects the will of the people.
Higher turnouts could completely change British politics.
