CAFOD One Climate, One World campaign + Local Suppoprting Event

The Barnet Eye is committed to supporting the CAFOD One Climate One World campaign.

Here are some details of the Campaign

CAFOD’s One Climate, One World campaign is now underway, calling on politicians and decision-makers to stop climate change pushing people deeper into poverty. The campaign also calls for a shift away from the fossil fuel use that causes climate change, and towards sustainable energy for all.
”As the UK prepares for the 2015 general election we have a unique opportunity to get our politicians to commit to action on climate change,” says Sophie Dodgeon, CAFOD’s Head of Campaigns. “Climate change is the biggest threat to reducing poverty and is undermining decades of progress by CAFOD and our sisters and brothers in developing countries worldwide.”

Climate change: fuelling poverty
"It’s not too late to act, to sit up and take notice, to be good neighbours and look after the planet we live on. That’s why I’m supporting CAFOD’s One Climate, One World campaign.”
– Ben Price, actor and CAFOD ambassador
Sinteyo Legei and her community in Isiolo, Kenya, are at the sharp end. “We had more droughts… and food was scarce because the crops were failing,” says Sinteyo. “During the worst drought, we went to bed without eating anything.”
Fossil fuels: driving climate change
Scientists say humans are causing climate change, mainly through burning fossil fuels like coal, oil and gas. Moving away from these fuels and towards to sustainable energy (solar, wind or water-generated) makes the energy we use part of the solution rather than the problem.
Sustainable energy: part of the solution
CAFOD’s partners are now providing sustainable energy in some of the poorest communities, helping light and heat schools, refrigerate medicines and power water systems.
Sinteyo’s family have already benefited. With CAFOD’s support they’ve found a way out of poverty by harnessing solar power. “We use a solar-powered pump to water tomato plants which we eat and sell, helping us feed ourselves and our families,” says Sinteyo. “It has been a godsend.” You can find out more about Sinteyo and her community by watching our new short film above.

Act now!
Politicians need to know they have our backing in prioritising climate change. “All great changes – from abolishing transatlantic slavery to ending apartheid – came about because people acted together,” adds Sophie Dodgeon. “As party leaders draw up their election manifestos, now’s the time to put faith into action and press them to play their part in caring for creation.”
One campaigner ready to take action is Coronation Street actor and CAFOD ambassador Ben Price. “It’s not too late to act, to sit up and take notice, to be good neighbours and look after the planet we live on,” says Ben. “That’s why I’m supporting CAFOD’s One Climate, One World campaign.”
