Barnet Council is one of six London boroughs to win grant funding for green spaces in the Mayor of London’s new Green Capital grant.
A press release on the Barnet Council website details the grants.
Barnet Council has been awarded £324,000 to help renovate Silkstream Valley parks, Silkstream Park and Montrose Playing Fields. The development of these green spaces will include two new playgrounds, new facilities for sports such as basketball, parkour and tennis, a cafĂ©, events spaces and more.
In a separate development, Barnet Council was also awarded funding of nearly £80,000 from the Environment Agency Water Environment Improvement Fund to go towards the river restoration element of the Silk Stream and; Montrose Parks project.
As well as providing new facilities, the improvements will also supplement the environment. The developments will reduce risk of flood from River Brent by naturalising the river banks, along with tree planting and wildlife habitats, all of which will also encourage increased biodiversity.

Councillor David Longstaff |
The Barnet Eye is pleased to report that there is reasonable funding for projects to boost the local environment and also to improve the offering for sport for local children. I would be interested to know whether Barnet Council still considers
the Mayor of London an enemy of the people, now he is contributing to the improvement of local parks for local children? If nothing else,n it shows just how ridiculous and juvenile Tory Councillor David Longstaff was in drafting such a motion and how shameful it was that his Tory colleagues voted it through. Maybe and apology is due from Cllr Longstaff and his cronies?
Now that Islamaphobia has been exposed within the Barnet Conservative group, maybe they may want to reconsider this ridiculous slur and start enaging in grown up politics.
