The Tweets of the week in the London Borough of Barnet - 12/7/2020

So we've had a week of freedom (sort of) from #Lockdown.Have you ventured to the pub? Been into town? If you've been wondering what the Tweeters of Barnet have been doing, wonder no more!

1. We'll start with a historical tweet. Did you know that our area was originally famed for its hay and manure!

Mentions many of the things that appear often in descriptions of the era: Irish doing the hay-making, temporary English workers from Bedfordshire, pubs like the Bald Faced Stag supplying the thirsty workers and the great circular trade of hay + manure between London and Middlesex

2. Our borough has a very large Irish community, which I am proud to consider myself a member of. I am pretty sure that every last one of us loved this man, so I was chuffed to find this picture!

Very sad to wake up to the news of Jack Charlton. 4. This is an appalling story. We owe our local police a debt of gratitude for the work they do keeping us safe.

A Metropolitan Police officer has this afternoon been stabbed in Hendon. The male officer has been taken to hospital for treatment - thankfully his condition is not life threatening and he is expected to make a full recovery from his injuries. https://t.co/TMLdciJSGb pic.twitter.com/0VyEAlS1gp

8. Did you know Dixons started in Edgware

Dixons was once closely related with Edgware, its second store (the first was in Southend) , was at 185 Station Road, in 1940. It later set up its headquarters and warehousing in the town (although I'm not sure where.) (1/2) https://t.co/sS5Kosktch

9. This is a fantastic picture of my favourite statue

I thought about welding two photos together to get this statue holding a perfectly exposed moon at 3am, but the trickery seemed pointless...
