The Wednesday Poem #32 - The scariest thing

Hey Dad, what's the scariest thing?
See if you can guess son,
There's only one thing that can really scare you.

Is it a Dalek?
No son.

Is it a Dinosaur?
No Son.

Is it a Zombie?
No son.

Is it a Werewolf?
No son.

Is it a Vampire?
No son.

Is it aan Alien?
No son.

Hey Dad, what's the scariest thing?
Look in the mirror son,
There you'll find the only thing that can truly scare you.

This is loosely based on a conversation I had with my Dad when I was about eight years old. He went on to explain that the most horrible things have been done by seemingly ordinary people, with seemingly mundane jobs. As WWII bomber pilot, ex prisoner of war and escapee from a Romanian POW camp, he'd seen some terrible things. Some of his friends had seen far worse. If nothing else, it put me off horror films for life.
