The Daily Mail is supporting Tory misogynists rather than common decency

Misogyny is rife right across the Tory party and has been for years. The latest outbreak is truly disgusting. The fact that 'unnamed MP's' have briefed in such a revolting way about Labours MP Angela Rayner is something that in this day and age is totally unacceptable. What makes me sick is the fact that there is a massive story here. It is nothing to do with Angela Rayner. It is the fact that Tory MP's are prepared to come out with such vile crap to national papers and that they are prepared to print it. 

If the Daily Mail had any principles at all, they would have named and shamed the MP's who tried to plant the story. It is clearly in the public interest. I would not want to vote for such vile individuals and I doubt that too many Tories would. If the Mail had a shred of decency, they could nip this in the bud by putting the MP's on the front page. Then we'd get a grovelling apology and voters would be given the opportunity at the next election to cast their verdict. By witholding the names, the Mail is simply serving a bunch of sexist, male chauvanist pigs. 

Then there is the Tory Party. It is beyond belief that the whips don't know who did it. Anyone who knows the workings of Westminster, knows that any Tory MP thick enough to say such a thing would not do so without the nod from the whips. There are only really two possible explanations. One is the whips knew and are now trying to shut it down. The other is that they've lost their grip on both the Tory party and their common sense. If I was them, I'd be making it my business to know. Of course they will try and cover it up, but no sane person should think they don't know. If Boris was good to his word, he'd call them in, find the culprits and make them apologise. Of course he won't.

Earlier today, I wrote a blog concerning former Conservative West Hendon Councillor, who recently joined the Lib Dems. It is pretty clear to anyone that she wasn't 'one of the boys' and fell victim to the well known misogyny in the Barnet Tories, that saw other former female councillors humiliated by their male colleagues, Kate Salinger springing to mind as a prime example. Make no mistake, the party is riddled with this from top to bottom. What Angela Rayner has had to put up with happens at every level of the Tory Party. Over recent months, we've had the vile spectacle of Tory Bigwig Brian Coleman attacking Labour GLA rep Anne Clarke. I was so revolted that I made the unusual step of supporting a political opponent on Twitter.

We need some decency in politics and if women can't stand without these revolting attacks, then our councils and parliament will find itself shorn of 50% of the most talented people in the land. The conecpt that this goes with the gig is plain wrong. Stopping this is one reason why I am standing and one reason why I am proud to share a platform with the Donna Pickup who is an excellent candidate and I am sure will do an amazing job for the people of Mill Hill. It will also send a message to these dinosaurs. The council elections in May is an ideal opportunity to send both the local and national Conservatives a strong message that this won't do. And as for the Daily Mail. Don't touch it with a bargepole.

The Barnet Eye Challenge !!!!

The Barnet Eye is always one to put it's money where it's mouth is. Today we announce the Barnet Eye Challenge. There is a great prize on offer - A Pot Noodle dinner for Two at Mill Hill Music Complex whilst watching the Mighty False Dots (my band), Mill Hill's finest Rock and Roll band in a rehearsal. How could you possibly resist that treat.

The challenge is a simple one. Since the Tories got in, my Council Tax has gone up by nearly £1,000 a year. If anyone can tell me what what extra things I'm getting for my £1,000 a year, then you win. How much have Council workers wages gone up since then (front line workers, not directors or Councillors allowances?). In the words of the song -Where has all the money gone?

David Miller : Chipping Barnets very own John The Baptist !

David Miller, who writes the "Not the Barnet Times" blog, has been following a very simple agenda since he started his blog last July. It is quite simple. People in public office, be it Councillors or Officials should do their job professionally and with honour. He believes that collection of
taxes should be kept to a minimum, funding what is necessary, not extravagent lifestyles for those in the pay of taxpayers. His criticism of local officials and councillors has upset those in office. Talk has reached the Barnet Eye that certain highly placed people in the Chipping Barnet Conservatives have called for his head (well actually his ejection from the Party) following his strident criticism of the Queen of the Court at Barnet, Lynn Hillan.

The story is like a modern day reworking of the tale of John the Baptist. What did John say about Taxes? "collect no more than you are required to" (Lk. 3.13) Strangely enough this message didn't go down too well with the ruling elite. His criticism of the shenanigans at the court of King Herod lead to his imprisonment. Herodias, Herods wife bore a grudge against John for criticising her. She conspired with her daughter, Salome, and persuaded the King to behead John. How did John describe himself? Was he a prophet or a messiah? No he said he was "a voice in the wilderness".

Did it do them any good? Well if you believe the accounts, the population ascribed the defeat of Herods army in 36 AD to the wrath of God for killing John The Baptist. Now although I'm a good Catholic boy and I'm sure God was none to pleased with Herod, I'd suggest that there might be a more straightforward explanation. You see I think Herod had got so lazy, out of touch and complacent, as witnessed by the accounts of his court, that he let his army get to a state that they were not up to the job. Had Herod listened to John and cut taxes, made his soldiers behave professionally and cleaned up his court, he would still have had a lifestyle far better than his subjects. He would also have been seen as a popular and fair leader. Maybe his army would have done a little bit better.

Which brings us back to Chipping Barnet & David Miller. Whatever anyone may think of David, there is no doubt that he is a Conservative. There is no doubt that his views are in tune with the majority of grassroots activists. There is no doubt that his family is well respected within the wider party. There is also no doubt whatsoever that if the Barnet Tories listened to him, they would be far more popular and not just with ardent Tories. If the policies he advocates were implimented, this blog would have nothing to say most of the time, as the obvious cock ups would disappear. As to the Tory army - the activists who go out canvassing, delivering leaflets etc? Will Davids treatement inspire them? I don't think so.

David may not live in the desert on locusts, he's probably not lead the chaste lifestyle of John, I doubt that too many churches will be named after him, but when it comes to the Barnet Tories & common sense, he certainly is a voice in the wilderness ! One they'd be well advised to take heed of.
