Barnet Council register for Councillors with nothing to hide is on line !

Barnet Council has set up a register of interests for councillors with nothing to hide. Just follow this link.

It may not surprise you to see that certain names do not appear. I wonder why? I rather suggest that we should insist that the council make this compulsory. I daresay one or two residents will be interested to see Councillor Brian Coleman has to declare. Tough luck. Odd how all of the opt outs are Tories

I see that Mark Shooter has opted out. Is this the same Mark Shooter who promised to be a new broom and make the council more accountable?

Nothing To Hide so nothing to fear.

The conclusion that we can reach safely is that those members who are not willing to publish what are public expenses are hiding something.

Everyone has the right to a private life - but this is public money so those spending it should be accountable.

Some appear to have no means of support whatsoever - Cllr Braun has put none against every item in her declaration including sponsorship (other councillors have declared election contributions from their political party) and property (other councillors have identified their home). There was one item that did lighten my mood as I read through the register last night and that is Cllr Longstaff in High Barnet Ward whose registered profession is actor/commedian. His showreel shows a completely different side to his character. http://www.uk.castingcallpro.com/files.php?uid=52857&fuid=58896

I've been struggling through these declarations for the blog, not knowing whether to laugh or cry. How did we end up with such a bunch of semi literate eejits, most of whom are apparently incapable of filling out what should be a straightforward enough form?
