The wit and wisdom of Councillor Andrew Harper

A quote from yesterdays Evening Standard about Monday nights Barnet Council Cabinet meeting
Barnet's deputy leader, Andrew Harper, said: "There were two groups of people; those residents genuinely concerned about changes to public services and those people who just came along to shout."
Harper neglected to mention the third group of people, the one he belongs to. The ones who turn up to pocket huge allowances. One of my regular commenters asked which of Harpers groups I belong to. I'm proud to say, that I am a staunch member of both. I shouted at Harper and his cronies because I care and if he's too thick to realise that he's in the wrong job.

Apparently he was rather keen on the picture of "Model X" that I put on my previous blog. Well just for you Andrew, here's another - this is what you get if you google ANDREW HARPER PORN STAR
using the search for images.

I think this rather sums Harper up. He's our flexible friend in Barnet, bending over backwards to keep us all happy, but sadly he'll never make it to the top of the greasy pole. My apologies to the rather attractive lady in the picture for the analogy, she at least seems to have a talent for something.

Do you know, I'm not altogether sure she could be best described as a lady, Mr Tichborne, engaging in such activities ... actually, you sure it's a woman?

Anyway: how I laughed to read Harper's comments: this serves to emphasise how out of touch they are. There was no gang of troublemakers there to yell: this was crowd of ordinary residents incensed by the actions of the council, and at the meeting by the shameful, arrogant and frankly offensive behaviour of many of the councillors. If Mr Harper does not enjoy the criticism and outrage expressed by residents, he and his colleagues only have themselves to blame. On the day when he publicly stands up to Brian Coleman and tells him where to get off, I might begin to think he is worthy of more respect. Until such a time, I'm afraid I have no sympathy.

I originally commented because I thought it was so disgusting that Mr Harper could insinuate people like Roger "were there to shout" and did not CARE about public services.

Mr Harper perhaps WAS there to shout (did he?) and seems to show that HE does not care about public services.

So it just seemed he was being unintentionally ironic.

I will wait for the ribald wit of Mrs Angry to comment on the photo, before considering a riposte. If she could somehow weave Manuel, MP for Hendon, into her comment, we would bring together both the current humourous strands of this excellent blog into one.

Overlapping comment updates just happened, Mrs A!

Make a ribald remark, baarnett? I am far too ladylike. Or at least, I have never tried pole dancing.
Yet. Sorry if this disappoints Mr Harper.

Anyway, the Barnet Times reports that "Barnet Council leader admits 'empathy' for residents hit by council cuts", here.

So the cuts business, and the lack of consultation, has all been an unfortunate misunderstanding.

On reflection, Roger's photo is probably a bazarre advert for stainless steel tubing.

Actually, believe it or not, the picture was from the daily Mail website and was about the Pole dancing championships.

No, surely not. The Daily Mail doesn't want to let any Poles into the country.
