My little tribute to Sly Stone, who was the man who opened my eyes to the power of funk! Here's my top ten favourite tracks that are funky and groove
1. Had to start with this. This is where my odessy into grooving started
2. Any funky list that doesn't have this track is compiled by an idiot.
3. Now this one was from a film, it was sort of where we all started to realise what funk was and how cool it was.
4. This is a track that is guaranteed to get the audience on their feet, even though the instruction is the opposite!
5. This is a total classic of the genre.
6. This one was a monster when it was released. A proper track
7. Saw this mob at Dingwalls in the 1980's they could funk, never quite made it to the level they deserved though
8. Saw this lot a couple of years ago and they were awesome. Who'd have thought Scotland could produce music like this?
9. This lot never really got the recognition they deserved as a great funk band, but this is a banger of a tune.
10. Couldn't miss this fella out, only problem was picking the right tune!
And finally. I wouldn't be so stupid to include this in a list of the best funk tracks, but I can honestly say that if it wasn't for these amazing tracks, The False Dots would never have come up with Groovetown, our new single released yesterday. Have a listen and tell us what you think.
Just in case you liked these, here they are in a Spotify playlist!
