Offord exposes council failures !

Thanks to my son earlier today for a lesson in the bleedin' obvious. He's only 8 years old, but he certainly can spot prime quality BS when he sees it. I was looking at a press release on Matthew Offords Hendon Conservative website today, about a team of volunteers cleaning up Brent Park. I was thinking to myself, that is a good thing for the local community to be doing. My boy, wanting to play games on the laptop caught sight and said "Who are those people, what are they doing". I said "They are a team of local residents who have got together to clean up the park and make it nice for everyone". Quick as a button, he asked "Aren't there supposed to be Park keepers to do that?".

Matthew Offord may think he's just posing for a nice photo opportunity, but the truth is that he's only there because Barnet's Conservative Council, of which he was deputy leader until last week, cannot even make sure that our local parks are kept clean, safe and tidy. If you read his article you will see that the only reason that a safety rail is being put around the pond is because Boris has paid for it. The same for the bushes being pruned. All of this is done with public money. I ask you this - why does the Mayor of London think it is worth spending the cash, but Matthew Offords Barnet Council don't. I'd say that stopping toddlers drowning is money well spent.

The story is told here, http://www.barnet-today.co.uk/tn/News.cfm?id=18302&headline=Clean%20up%20unearths%20pieces%20of%20silver, of how Matthew Offord slipped into a wetsuit and found buried treasure in the lake! A-ha, Jim lad!

Alas the website doesn't show the fantastic picture of Offord with his haul which appears on p12 of Barnet Press this week.

He'll have to work harder than that to recoup the losses made on Aerodrome Road: perhaps while he is doing the Fastnet race he will come upon a real pirate's horde somewhere!
