Never fear, Barnet Council is here !

Jeff Tracey watch out, International Rescue will soon be out of business. Barnet Council has sprung into action. From their action centre in North London Business park, they've issued an urgent Twitter message

http://twitter.com/BarnetCouncil/statuses/10012143848005632

It says :-

For advice on how to clear your own drive or path of snow please visit: http://www.barnet.gov.uk/gritting

Their site contains all sorts of helpful advice such as:-

It’s easier to move fresh, loose snow rather than hard snow that has packed together from people walking on it. So if possible, start removing the snow and ice in the morning. If you remove the top layer of snow in the morning, any sunshine during the day will help melt any ice beneath. You can then cover the path with salt before nightfall to stop it refreezing overnight. Be careful - don’t make the footpaths more dangerous by causing them to refreeze

Marvellous work boys

Fantastic stuff - white of course. Mill Hill is looking lovely today with its winter blanket of snow. 2010 has been a lovely snowy year in Mill Hill and I fear that Barnet Council have been a little late with their advice. A word of praise for them - the roads were gritted well in advance and so have not been blocked like they were earlier this year and in 2009 and in 2003. So they have certainly got their gritting act together better than many councils. The large snowfalls in 2011 January will test them to the limit. I love global warming.

Don't confuse the weather with the climate.

Shouldn't that read: "Always live in Fear Barnet Council are here"?
