The Wednesday Culture Round Up and The Wednesday Poem

The Wednesday Poem

Mill Hill Park
Pic courtesy of Richard Wilkinson

As a kid, from dawn till dark,
Swings and roundabouts what a lark,
Mums and Dads nowhere in sight,
except on Sunday to fly the kite

Pitch and putt and football too
Tennis courts for the wealthy few!
Dogs would roam off their leads
Ice cream vans for tasty treats

Now its all so sanitised
Tarmacs gone from the swings and slides
No more knees caked in scabs
Kids are watched by Mums and Dads

Now I'm a parent I don't see
How as I kid I ran so free
It's a miracle we survived
And had such fun and no one died
