I can honestly say that every single one of these gigs has been an absolute blast. The gig yesterday was a matinee show. We went onstage at 4pm and played for an hour. We had several guests. Derek Treadwell jumped up to play trumpet on "We don't live in America" and "We all love a party" and Charlie Honderick jumped up to perform Pusherman, with Alex Sarychkin also jumping up on backing vocals. For our final number, we asked all three back up to join us for a mash up of Feliz Navidad and Last Christmas.
Everyone was in a brilliant mood. We had conga's around the gaff for Groovetown. People ask why I still do it. There are two reasons, the first is because I have a blast and the second is because we sent 100 people home with a smile on their face. I always get a huge adrenalin rush from playing. There are two big bonuses of playing such gigs, that is rarely mentioned. It is a great chance to see friends. For our crowd, the gigs are as much a chance to get together and have a drink as it is to see us. I probably talked to 30 people who I've not seen for months.
The other great thing is to see other bands who are great. Yesterday we had two. First up were Bobby Zodiac and The Clairvoyants, who were brilliant and quite unique. Possibly the strangest band The False Dots have played with.
Also on the bill were Laurence O, Louise Hatch and the Blistered Mirrors, who played a great Americana style set
I got bought rather too many beers after the show. We then went for a lovely Portuguese meal at O Toro in Camden Town. I made the ill informed decision to have a Firewater Aperitif (proper Madrona) which is rather like Irish hooch. I fell asleep on the train home! Luckily Clare woke me up at Mill Hill.
I have woke up feeling better! The down side of gigging is that I feel like I'm 163 this morning. It is worth it though. Onwards and upwards to 2026. We are about to record a new single and we have some rather tasty looking gigs in the pipeline. The first one is confirmed for 15th March back at the Dublin Castle, another matinee show, where we'll do it all again (well maybe not the Xmas number!).
