My mother used to say "If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything". She was wrong. But there are times when saying nothing, keeping a respectful silence and sending condolensces to friends and family and people who are personally affected is appropriate, and if you can't bring yourself to do that, maybe you are the problem and not the solution. I'm not going to speculate on how or why Anne Widdecombe met her death. I don't know and the last thing anyone wants is uninformed commenters speculating. But I do have this to say. I was brought up to believe that any form of violence against women is plain wrong, a hundred times more so when they are a defenceless old lady. So I will be sending my thoughts and prayers to the friends of Anne Widdecombe as I cannot imagine how traumatic and horrible the situation is.
The way we achieve political change in the UK is via the ballot box. If you don't get that then you really have nothing of interest to say to me.
