Isn't Finchley lucky?

"Former Finchley MP, Margaret Thatcher defined what Conservatism was in the 1980's and 1990's. Finchley PPC Mike Freer is one of a new band of forward looking Conservative politicians who will define what being a Conservative is in the 21st Century".

So the new definition of a Conservative is a Us*l*ss Tw*t is it? In the words of the Jolly Green Giant "Ho Ho Ho". I'm sure Tories everywhere will be chuffed by this revelation.

Finchley would be exceptionally lucky to be rewarded twice in a generation by someone with the insight, drive and connection with the mass of voters as Margaret Thatcher.

But to misquote Senator Lloyd Bentsen, "Councillor you are no Margaret Thatcher".

Mike Freer, from my experience, is stuck hopelessly in the 1980s desperately aping what **he thinks** Thatcherism was. What he fails to grasp is that specific policies were suited for that time and those circumstances. In particular, the business world and bureaucracies have become wise to fiddling standard tendering and contracting out of services, the savings are rarely there after you have been hoodwinked with a 10 year 6 volume contract.

Forward looking Conservatives like Cameron and local govt in the USA are using technology and the free market (not New Labour bureaucracy) to see local business benefit from public works and enable small businesses to compete for this work in small chunks.

Just when will Freer et al leave Soviet style planning and huge bureaucracies in the 1980s and join the rest of us in the 21st Century?
