Hendon Constituency Special - Meet your local MP Matthew Offord

Are you a resident of the Hendon Constituency? If you are, your local MP Matthew Offord would love to meet you. He wants to hear your concerns. He has organised a meeting on Friday and the Barnet Eye is keen to ensure that he gets a full house. Please come down if you have not made other arrangements.

Topics which I'd suggest people may want to discuss with Matthew.

1. Gay marriage. Mr Offord is a staunch opponent. I'm sure that if you support his opposition he'd love to hear from you. Then again, if you don't agree with Matthew, I am sure he'd be interested to hear from you.

2. One Barnet. Matthew was the deputy leader of the council when One Barnet was dreamed up.  As your MP and a senior member of the Conservative Party, I am sure he'd love to hear your views.

3.  Human rights for dogs. Matthew has been on National TV proposing a human rights charter for dogs, following a ban on his faithful friend Maximus the Jack Russell. We hope Max will be joining him on Friday. The Barnet Eye is a keen fan of doggies.

4. Cheese shops. The one pledge Matthew Offord made to residents prior to his election was that he'd love to see Mill Hill Broadway become the type of place where ambitious businessmen would open cheese shops. Three years after his election, we still have no cheese shops. If you like cheese, come along and ask Matthew where his cheese shop is.

5. First Capital Connect. Matthew is chair of the Parliamentary Transport committee responsible for First Capital Connect. Do you think FCC are providing a good service? Tell Matthew what you think.

6. Soup recommendations. Matthew was famously mistaken for a soup waiter at the House of Commons by David Cameron shortly after he arrived. Matthew was so proud of this that he tweeted it! Come along and ask him which soup he'd recommend.

7. Responsible Drinking. Matthew is a big advocate of responsible drinking. Drunks can be a public hazard and we are keen to hear what Matthew is doing to address this problem in Hendon.

8. Assaults on women. One of Matthews former party colleagues and mentor was convicted earlier this year for assualting a woman in North Finchley. We'd be keen to hear from Matthew what he plans to do to help eradicate such awful behaviour.

Of course, we are sure that Hendon residents have a whole range of issues that they may want to discuss with Matthew. He doesn't come out to play very often (except when there is an election in the offing) so don't waste the chance.

Cheese shops hit by Barnet Parking changes !

In the 2010 elections, Tory candidate Matthew Offord (now MP) said he wanted Barnet to be the type of place where it was good to start a small business. He told one resident that he looked forward to the day when the policies of the local Conservatives would lead to the opening of a cheese shop in Mill Hill Broadway. The implication was that the Conservatives cared about the shopkeepers in the local high streets.

All local trade organisations are in uproar at the parking changes. Some traders report a 35% drop in trade. Shoppers have deserted the High Street in droves. Have we heard a peep from Mr Offord? Has he stuck up for local traders against the Council? Has he delivered on his promise?

One small trader told me that he'd never vote Tory again yesterday. He said that if he sold a product in the way Offord sold his campaign, he'd be prosecuted under the trades descriptions act.  He said Offord told him that his door was always open, if there was any problems. Since the election, he's seen nothing and heard nothing,despite repeated attempts to get in touch. Sadly with politicians, there is a no money back guarantee. We are lumbered with Offord and his Tory Councillor cronies until the next election. Whilst Offord promised cheese shops galore, all him and his mates have done is landed us in the soup.

It is bad enough that they are seeking to shaft the local shop owners with parking charges, without actually trying to undercut them and nick their trade. Oddly Offord hasn't got a cheese portal on his shop

Manuel the Doggone Soup Waiter & Brian Colemans Spin Doctor

 I had a rather amusing thought regarding Matthew Offord MP and his recent TV appearence concerning his annoyance at his human rights being breached, because he can't take his dog to work. Rumour has it that Manuel, Parliaments most famous soup waiter is none to pleased with this title. Do you suppose he had a word with Brian Colemans spin doctor and said "How can I stop everyone calling me Manuel?" and BC's spin doctor said "Well you could always do something which makes you look and even bigger berk" and so Matthew thought "What a marvellous idea".

If it's of any interest to Manuel, I have just the job for him, if he's too distraught at being apart from Max to continue as an MP. My old friend Ron The Ratcatcher passed away a couple of years ago. As Matthew has a Jack Russell, he'd be an ideal replacement, as these dogs excel at pest control

Matthew Offord - Soup or Injunctions

Hendon MP, Matthew Offord has been making quite a name for himself recently. He was asked to give an interview to newsnight to discuss the subject, bit sadly was already busy. One can only speculate as to why Matthew is so fascinated in the subject. The Barnet Eye has it's own theory. As everyone in Barnet knows, the Prime Minister, David Cameron is often known to seek the advice of our MP, whilst dining in the commons canteen. We can only speculate that the interest started during one of these conversations. Maybe it went something like this.  Imagine the scene. A troubled David Cameron is pondering the issues of the day in the canteen, when Matthew walks past.

Prime Minister : Offord, come here now.

MO : Yes sir, what would you like?

PM : Superinjunctions? What's your advice?

MO : Go for the soup, the carrot and corriander is good, as is the french onion. I've not tried the injunctions, is that a french dish?

PM : Thank you Offord, I can always rely on you to bring a chink of sunshine in an otherwise cloudy day, now piss off.

MO : Yes sir, thank you sir

No soup for David Cameron at the CST Dinner?

David Cameron recently attended the CST Dinner to voice his support for CST and the Jewish community in the fight against antisemitism and extremism. Local Hendon MP Matthew Offord was also due to attend this event.
Matthew tweeted "Will be attending the CST dinner after the Terrorism motion later tonight" at lunchtime
The dinner starts at 6.30pm and runs through till about 10pm. According to Hansard, the debate Matthew mentioned finished at 8.30pm. So it seems that sadly Matthew wasn't around when the starters were served. 


I do hope that with Matthew detained in the House, the Prime Minister was able to get his soup.
