Profumo the Musical - I've been sacked !!!!!!

As I mentioned earlier this week, I got the part of Ronnie Kray in Profumo the Musical, which is being staged at the Waterloo East Theatre. After a week of rehearsals, I was feeling pretty good about the show. We had a run through of act 1 yesterday, and people were very complimentary but today I got the dreaded call. The director felt my interpretation of Ronnie wasn't true to the spirit of the script that the writer had produced and so my services are being dispensed with! He felt that the script was written for a "strong song and dance man". In truth, he's the director, if he thinks it isn't working then that is his shout. He didn't need to explain.

Now whilst I am rather gutted as I was looking forward to the show, I can't pretend that overall it wasn't a great experience.

The Director wanted strong dancers as the number I was doing was the "Big number" in act 1. In truth, choreographed dance routines are well beyond my range of abilities, although I thought we delivered the comedic slapstick aspect of it excellently, a fact acknowledged by the director in the dreaded call.

Still show business is a tough old game. It gives me time to concentrate on Capita! The Movie, which in the bigger scheme of things is no bad thing. In truth, I've been staying up till 2 in the morning trying to hold everything together. Whilst I am happy to do this as I am not afraid of hard work, the Capita movie will make a difference in the way me doing a slapstick Ronnie Kray in a musical never will. Some things were not meant to be !

The show has an excellent cast and crew. I wish them all the very best and I will still be going down to watch it. It has been a pleasure having them at Mill Hill Music Complex Studios. If anyone has booked hoping to see me (perish the thought), I can honestly say that it is a great show and you'll probably get an even better deal for my omission.

"Wasn't true to the spirit of the script"?

Well, he WOULD say that, wouldn't he?
