So you've got that. If on Wednesday morning, she's still in the job after the "Allowancegate Fiasco", that means that all of the Tories in the cabinet have "confidence" in her. Put it another way, they either lack the balls to tell her the truth for fear of losing their allowances or they genuinely think she's the most capable one of the lot of them (that's what a vote of Confidence means). Given the complete cock up she's made of the job, if they all think they are worse than her, lord help us as we've got four more years of them.
Of course Lynne, you could do the honourable thing. You could stand up and say "I've shown appalling judgement. We must restore confidence therefore I'm calling for a vote to reverse the allowance increase, I'm reinstating Councillor Salinger to her previous jobs and I'm resigning before I can do any more damage".

I know the famous Walt Disney film of lemmings jumping off a cliff was faked. However, Ms. Hillan is lining herself up with the cliff edge, and her lackeys (or manipulators) are deciding whether to push.
Allow me to ask therefore, while nothing is happening, about some history. (Is there an 'Old Codger' who can help?)
When Margaret Hilda became PM in 1979, did Barnet try to follow slavishly the new politics? I remember the elections were all, "Let's go over to Finchley now!" (In those days, Barnet could actually organise election counts properly.)
Then what happened when Denis told her it was time to go? How did Barnet's politics change in the Major years?
Bambi took over next, so what happened in Barnet? Gordo is a mere footnote, so what happened in 2002 when the Conservatives took power again?
If we can get this all out of the way, then we can get back to AllowanceGate matters!
@baarnett you do kind of make an interesting constitutional point! It was the convention that upon the death of the monarch the whole government would resign as the government was, and remains, her Majesty's government and in theory the new monarch would want to appoint a new one to their suiting.
So in a similar light the same now applies in Barnet. Until very recently the law allowed the full Council to appoint the Deputy Leader and Cabinet. (I fought hard for that to be retained when on the Council) but the last government made the change so that the Deputy Leader and Cabinet were appointed by the Leader alone.
So it strikes me that when any Leader resigns the Deputy Leader and Cabinet should automatically cease to be (as they only exist by virtue of the Leader's power) and a the new Leader will have to appoint a whole new Cabinet and Deputy from fresh.
This contrasts to previously when the Deputy and Cabinet where appointed by the full Council, when the Leader resigned they would carry on as their authority and mandate came from the Council and not the Leader.
Panic is an understatement. This will run and run if she does not resign and then the Party changes their policy.
With the local press and every single voter against them they have no choice ? Unless they are stupid ?

Barnet would do well to look over at Liverpool:
A group of 32 executives at Liverpool City Council have agreed to a pay cut to save the authority £500,000.
The council's 25 assistant executive directors and heads of service have agreed that bonuses worth 10% of their salary should be axed permanently.
Earlier in July, its seven-member executive management team gave up their 15% performance related pay.
The reductions are designed to protect front-line services in the city from public spending cuts
