Put your blues behind you - Two weeks to go until the gig of the year, when The False Dots play the Dublin Castle

In exactly two weeks time, I'll be making my final preparations for the gig of the year with The False Dots at the Dublin Castle in Camden Town. I sincerely hope you can join us and help me put to bed what has been a pretty dire six months. For those of you that haven't been following the blog, I had a flare up of my prostate cancer in March and had my prostate removed on the 9th August. It has been hard adjusting to the physical changes that this has caused, but music is a massive solace. I am delighted to announce that we are being joined for the evening by a good friend and amazing musican, Mr Tom Hammond, on Trumpet.

Tom plays with The Lakes and Whelligan. We wanted to really do the Ska songs in the set justice. Tom was only too keen to oblige. We had our first rehearsal last night and it sounded amazing. The band has really evolved over the last two years and it has been a joy seeing the reaction to the videos and the live shows.

It will be a great night with three top notch bands supporting us:

The Shoals – talking of Bad Manners, these guys feature an ex member of said beery ska pop giants, and what’s more, talking of Madness, a certain Lee ‘Kix’ Thompson‘s lad Daley features too. Job’s a good un.

Vicious Love – taking in American style slacker indie and the punk pop angst of Sum 81 and the like, this lot certainly embrace the punk nuances from across the pond but with bits of Undertones type pop nous from closer to home. Witty and wanton with it.

The Stylus Method - Interesting blend of neo folk tinged pop, that you might call Britpop, and classic 60s/70s resonances....but this lot have, dare I say, bags of originality...so you might detect the spirit of Bowie or The Kinks they don't really sound like them. Great sophisticated sounding songs too. Lots of ideas, clever arrangements. I'm getting a bit of Al Stewart in the vocal. Good band, so make sure you're in by 8pm to check them out.

What is not to like!😀
