I wouldn't trust Mr Walkley & Mr Travers to run a whelk stall.
I was shocked, given the nature of the reports, that Councillor Cornelius was not present.
Councillor Richard Cornelius was not there as he has stated publicly that the Officers are pretty free to get on and run the Council.
He told the Press http://www.barnet-today.co.uk/news.cfm?id=22416
"I think it is very important for the leader to maintain a certain distance from the work of the council. I certainly won’t be on the chief executive’s shoulder"
There should be no surprise at Mr Walkley’s reluctance to have his evidence publicised. He would like people to forget that he was the Director of Resources when Metpro were first appointed without a contract or tender. The buck stopped at his desk then, as it does now in his role as Chief Executive. Nick Walkley should not resign. He should be sacked.
DCMD: And it is worth recalling Mr Walkley's interview in the Barnet Times.
"I suppose the question for me is: how do we make sure all the money, whether it be council tax payers’ money or the money coming from national taxes to fund other services, is being used for the maximum benefit of the people of Barnet?"
Yes, the question is indeed that.
...but first tnere has to be a disciplinary proceeding as Cllr Palmer was advised "in law,"
Quite correct, or pay a whole lot more for "unfair dismaissal," but then who bears responsibility for what appears to be corrupt regime of senior management when both gatekeepers, i.e. the Chief Executive and the Councillors failed to do so.
What's new in Local Government employment? Nothing! but new and clever ways be found to continue with the same shit where the elected and the appointed are from the same gene.
