Mill Hill - Centre of the Universe !

I really meant to post this yesteday, but other things cropped up, which bumped it. I had a hectic day. There were several big events in Mill Hill yesterday, all centered around The Ridgway. First off, the Sacred Heart Church had their annual open air mass and family day at St Vincents School on the Ridgeway. I was asked to provide a sound system, which I was pleased to do. This event has grown in popularity within the parish. As well as a mass, we had a raffle, a Polish Accordian player, display of Irish dancing, a display of contemporary dancing (from the St Vincents Dance club), a fine young Jazz singer and a five a side football tournament. Many families also brought picnics along. It was great to see everyone chilling out and pitching in. The panoramic view of London which is a backdrop to St Vincents is a sight anyone would enjoy. The Sacred Heart Parish in Mill Hill has changed massively. When I was a child, it was mainly Irish. There have been many new immigrants from Eastern Europe and Africa. They've all enriched and renewed the community. It was great to see everyone relaxing and getting on.

Just down the road we had the music day at Finchley Nurseries. Whilst there has been a huge row about the possible demise of Wyevale nurseries at Daws Lane, it is sometimes forgotten that we have another fine nursery in Burtonhole Lane. They had the Barnet Band and Morris Dancers. This is an annual event and if you've never visited, check them out. They have an incredible selection of plants as well as organic veg and a fine aquatic centre. Sadly due to my other commitments, I missed the fun.

Further down Burtonhole Lane we had the Mill Hill Village Youth Football Team charity event. This was attended by Joe Kinnear and The Mayor of Barnet, Lisa Rutter. There is a fine write up in the local paper. My firm was happy to sponsor the event by supplying a PA system and a Spurs UEFA cup final 1984 shirt, signed by Spurs greats Paul and Clive Allen. There is a write up of this on the Times website - http://www.times-series.co.uk/news/topstories/9133414.Young_footballers_help_raise___2_000_for_charity_and_Mill_Hill_sports_club/

I love Mill Hill and it was great to see so many people having such a great day.
