Barnet Eye 10th Birthday Party |
Guest blogs have formed an integral part of the Barneteye Story. Some guest bloggers are regulars, some are one offs. I have not included the first Guest blog in this list. I received an email from someone claiming to be Brian Coleman who demanded I publish this. I was later informed that it wasn't by Brian Coleman as he would never lower himself to seek to have anything published in the Barnet Eye. I found it all quite hilarious, which was why I published it. I had my suspicions as to who it was.The good thing it did was that it encouraged Phil Fletcher to get in touch and the concept of the Barnet Eye Guest blog was born. Perhaps our busiest guest blogger has been John Sullivan. In more than a couple of blogs, he's told me off for being too nice to the local Tories. Perhaps the most interesting blog is one from Julia Hines which is the second bottom on this list. Every concern Julia raised has come to pass.
Some of these blogs are very much of their time. Some are as relevant today as when they were first written. I suggest that you have a quick look through and maybe click on any that might interest you. Our guest bloggers put a huge effort into putting all of this together. One of these blogs really stands out. This was from Mr A. Yogi who asked us to publish a blog adverstising a fundraising dinner for the Conservative party in Edgware. I duly published it. I was most disappointed not to get a free ticket for the slap up dinner. Several readers were enraged that I published this and asked why. The answer was because Mr Yogi asked nicely. I've always worked on the presumption that I'd publish anything legal and decent and relevant to the Borough of Barnet or our readers. As this request conformed, there was no real reason not to.

-----------------------------------------------------To celebrate our birthday, we are having a party at The Midland Hotel in Hendon. We specially selected this pub, because it is under threat of closure and demolition. What better way to celebrate the birthday of a campaigning blog than at the site of a well loved landmark we are trying to save.
There will be live music and I am hoping for a few of our team of guest bloggers to say a few words about how the Barnet Eye has helped their campaigns. We will have the Barnet Capita wall on site for you to sign, as well as the Save The Midland petition. I will also be distrubuting a special, limited edition Barnet Eye brochure, which I am sure will one day sell for millions on Ebay. Please come along. Here I recount the birth of the Barnet Eye and the early days.
