Friern Barnet Library to shut today at 4pm

Yesterday a meeting of Barnet Council voted to shut Friern Barnet Library today at 4pm. Clearly this surprise attack on the local community had been cooked up by Councillor Robert Rams as a a way to kill off this well supported Library for once and all. The short notice is truly shocking, allowing no time at all for a proper review or consultation. Local people were dismayed at the way their views cast aside.

Clearly, many people were shocked. Immediately various people involved in the campaign to keep the library started working on a plan to try and fight back. I received this email last night.

Hi all
This is what I sent out to the SFBLG members just now:
****
It is with great regret and sadness that our hope to keep our much loved library open was ignored tonight at a vote on the libraries strategy by the Cabinet of Barnet council.

And despite over a year of us speaking up loud and clear to keep it open, our voices fell on deaf ears and cabinet swiftly voted it through to close.

It was agreed by local residents to meet outside FBL at 3pm to say goodbye, when it's doors will close at 4pm.

Please join us if you can make the time tomorrow at 3pm

 All the best,

The previous post questions whether "Samantha Brick" is cockney rhyming slang.

On that basis I can say only that the decision about your library appears to have been taken by a collection of brass poles.....
