Mill Hill Jazz Club needs your support

The Save London Music Campaign is working to support hard pressed London Promoters. Good promoters have, over the years, defined the shape of the London Music scene. Generally the very best combine a love of music, a passion for a specific genre, a strong focused vision and a good degree of business acumen. Sadly it doesn't take much to upset the delicate balance of income and expenditure that promoters need to ensure the bills are paid and the music can continue.  Our campaign is rooted in local, grassroots music. A fine example of one such promoter is Valerie O'Donoghue, who has run the Mill Hill Jazz club for nearly a decade, taking over from founder Paul Amsterdam. Val has brought an amazing collection of the best Jazz acts to Mill Hill in North West London over the years.

This year, a combination of events, firstly the snow and ice making access difficult, followed by the world cup siphoning off audiences have conspired to see attendances fall for some really amazing gigs. Val is not one to compromise on quality and insists bands are paid, so 2018 has been an exceptionally hard year and Val has found it harder than ever to manage the fine balance. She has been in touch with the Save London Music Campaign to get us to spread the word. All she is asking from local Jazz lovers is that they come down, spend a tenner and watch some great music.

All she wants is to pay the bills and put great musicians together with an appreciative audience.  The Mill Hill Jazz Club takes place every Wednesday from 8.30pm at Mill Hill Golf Club (100 Barnet Way, Mill Hill, NW7 3AJ).

Dan Bleich, who helps Val with publicity told the Save London Music Campaign
"The club is an intimate and cozy jazz venue where you can relax and listen to some of the best jazz that London has to offer, without having to go into town for it. With a wide varied of jazz styles the Mill Hill Jazz Club has become a favourite for music lovers to hang out. It has been going for almost 20 years and has some of the best musicians playing and singing in this wonderful friendly local jazz club. However, over the past few years audience numbers have been dropping and it is now to the point that the number of people who come to the club on a regular basis is not enough to continue to pay for the bands and at some point this will become unsustainable. This post is therefore an appeal to you, our supporters and lovers of live music to help us to keep the club going. If you have enjoyed the club in the past or have never been before and love live music then please come down to the club and show your support. Every penny that is taken on the door is used to pay for the bands and equipment. There is a great selection of jazz over the coming months - check out the what's on section of our website for more details. Our hosts at the Mill Hill Golf Club also offer of a fine selection of beers, wines and spirits in their bar."
