Lynne Hillan on Radio 4 today - Deeply disturbing interview

Lynne Hillan was on you and yours on radio 4 today - http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00pwppf/You_and_Yours_18_01_2010/ (If you visit the IPLAYER website above you forward the player to 37:00 minutes into the broadcast, it ends at 41:12 or just click on the clip below and go straight there).

If you forward the player to 37:00 minutes into the broadcast (it ends at 41:12). There are a couple of things I found rather disturbing. Lynne Hillan was boasting about Fairview Homes getting a "premium planning service". It seems they've paid for their own "planning officer". I don't know about you, but to me this whole concept stinks.

Hillan also made a truly breathtaking statement. Being asked about the Sheltered housing Warden cuts, she said it was "frustrating that Local Authorities are governed by National Law". What does she want? Is Barnet under Lynne Hillan angling to become a banana republic with it's own laws.

It sounds to me that in Lynne Hillans perfect Barnet, rich property developers get preferential treatment, the sick and elderly would be stripped of the protection of the law and you'd only get your bins emptied if you pay extra. It is one of the most disturbing things I've ever listened to. I do urge you to check it out yourself. The first bit of the piece is the former leader explaining the background to the bonkers scheme.

I don't know about you but I am very, very disturbed that a Council Leader can think like this.

Note : Thanks to Dont Call Me Dave at Not The Barnet Times for the clip

Council leader complains that the council has to obey the law. That neatly sums up the problem with Barnet.
